SEXUAL ANXIETY

Many sexual difficulties are caused by anxiety. Anxiety inhibits communication and limited communication leads to unsatisfying sex and more anxiety. Anxiety also interferes with humor and the ability to have fun. The result is reduced desire, responsiveness and enjoyment. This may lead to avoidance of sex.

Anxiety may be about being hurt, not performing well, getting close, and even generalized anxiety. Avoiding sex or a having a strong urge to control sex is usually an expression of anxiety. Alcohol can help some people to reduce anxiety, but will often mask a problem that you would do better to resolve.

Most difficult of all, people can be emotionally triggered by particular words, touches, or sounds that are part of love-making. Triggers are feelings that arise from past upsetting events that have similarities to the current event. In these situations, even good communication may not resolve the response.

SEX ANXIETY AND ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION (ED).

Anxiety is the enemy of good erections. A good erection depends on excitement without anxiety.

Sexual enhancements like Viagra will help to some extent, but won’t work well if a man is very anxious. Relieving the anxiety will resolve the problem. ED can also happen for physiological reasons such as high stress, certain medications, lifestyle choices, and cardiovascular problems.

EMDR AND BRAINSPOTTING ARE POWERFUL TOOLS THAT MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE

For most people, Brainspotting and EMDR will resolve the anxiety and triggers that cause problems with sex. People’s communication improves, sexual responses improve, and they are no longer triggered by things during sex.
